A while back, I posted a link to a BBC news article about the history of fathers-to-be attending the delivery of their child.
The BBC have now posted this response, with real life stories from dads. It’s a lovely read, and very interesting.
Last episode of ‘The Midwives’ tonight.
I’m really upset that the BBC didn’t focus an episode on our low-risk, midwifery led unit.
It’s almost all been high risk, which means seeing flat-on-your-back deliveries and continuous monitoring, as well as unwell babies.
I feel that if they’d really spent some time up on MLU they’d have produced a lovely, empowering episode showing the change of position posters, the birthing balls, the pools etc. The real deal.
I understand though, the high-risk drama is ‘more interesting’ and gets higher ratings. Sad sad.
Forget ‘One Born Every Minute’
The hospital where I train has been being filmed by the BBC for the past few months for a documentary on how midwifery REALLY is, warts and all.
Hopefully it will make people understand how stressful it can be, and how understaffed UK maternity units really are.
‘The Midwives’ premiers on the 31st July at 9pm, BBC2. Please watch!
